Charles the Bald person, who has as a share France (843-877), tries to raise the royal authority and to drive out the Norman ones.
But the large ones, which benefitted from the disorders to increase their independence, and which do not want to become again of the subjects, return their hereditary grounds and their offices and become small sovereigns.
Charles the Bald person, who has only one weak army, cannot prevent the Norman ones from extending their devastations, and Robert the Fort perishes in them combatant (866).
