The league of Augsburg, formed against France in 1686, is still reinforced with Guillaume d' Orange become king d' Angleterre (1688).
France, attacked by England, Holland, Spain, Germany and Savoy, but defended by Vauban, Luxembourg, Catinat, Tourville, Jean Bart, holds head with glory with united, beats them in Fleurus, Steinkerque, Nerwinde, Marsaille, the course Saint-Vincent, and signs in Ryswick a honourable treaty (1697).
